After Tom's suicide in 2021, the TWPF was set up to make the online world a safe place for vulnerable people

TWPF's objectives are to:

  • Identify communities and platforms linked to deaths by suicide and campaign for them to be removed from the internet and real-world settings, with the objective of reducing the number of suicide attempts and reducing self-harm.
  • Identify poisons used for suicide and advocate for removal of their supply to vulnerable people worldwide, with the objective of reducing the number of suicide attempts in the UK.
  • Campaign to stop the publication of pro-suicide material and publication of detailed description of suicide methods, other than material used for legal assisted dying.
  • Advancing the education of the general public in online safety and of government, regulators and law enforcement's understanding of the use of the internet used by people and platforms to promote self-harm and suicide.
  • Work with other charities to provide an online platform where those with suicidal ideation can get advice on where to access support.
